Silicone Injection Moulding Process
In silicone moulding, the materials are prepared that is, the forming material and catalyst. The materials are mixed and released into a mould under high pressure with an injection screw. The mould is released to reveal the cool material that has taken the shape of the mould.

Step 1: Mixture preparation
The mixture can be done with a temperature stabilising system which controls the silicone’s temperature.
Step 2: Preparing the mould
The mould is usually preheated by flowing water inside the mould or electric heaters. A cold runner system is also prepared to prevent premature curing.
Step 3: Filling the mould
The mould is injected with molten silicone under vacuum conditions.
Step 4: Curing
This is the most critical stage in the silicone injection moulding process. Once the mould is filled, the temperature is increased to speed up the crosslinking process of the silicone.
Step 5: Cooling and demoulding
The formed object in the mould is cooled and removed from the mould.
Silicone Moulding Material Properties
The most common types of silicone used in silicone injection moulding are high-consistency silicone rubber (HSL) and liquid silicone rubber (LSR). These are the properties of these two silicone materials:
